My dad was a tail gunner in a Halifax bomber(20 yrs. old) and the only survivor when the plane was shot down. He thought the bombs were still on board and suffered a broken back. There is a restored Halifax, pulled out of a lake for static display but I can't remember if it's at the Canadian Warplane Museum. The Halifax never seems to get the credit it deserves. It wasn't as numerous as the Lancaster and didn't have as high a bomb load but it had a longer range and could go deeper into Germany. My dad was shot down over Munster(sp)which had the highest concentration of troops in all of Germany. I would love to be able to go to the museum. The Andy Minarski memorial Lancaster is one of only 2 still flying in the world. The other one is the Battle of Britain memorial Lancaster in the UK. Last year or the year before the Lancaster made a breve stop in Edmonton and I regret not going to see it.
