Probably I'm causing confusion by talking about two machines. The original system- bin/dryer/service was all new in 1988. That 10HP motor w/centrifugal fan has operated with a 70 amp breaker the whole time. I put up a new drying bin in the spring of 2011. It's the 10-16HP axial fan one. A new 100 amp breaker was placed in the original main panel to feed it. All wiring is copper. I just looked and found that my 10 HP motors are the 40 amp ones. The new 10-16 HP FLA is 58. I assumed if a breaker starts a motor, it certainly was big enough to run it. But I just remembered something else. Several times this fall when I started the new dryer, it chattered. I assumed it was in the unit itself, and asked the dryer people to check it out. They didn't make it before I got done. Now I'm wondering if there is an issue back at the 100 amp breaker(the one that was warm) at the main panel? Clearly, I'll need to check it out before another season, starting at the main panel.
