It might just work - but is it worth it ? I'm not much of an Oliver person but do believe that they used GM engins in a number of their tractors. I've use this tractor and remember it to be quite good - except for the shift (a pain in the ####). So a chevy engine might just bolt up to the clutch assembly. Thats the easy part. Non for the time consuming stuff - You will have to build a number of custom adapters and purchase a govenor to regulate the speed.\ Remember that this is an 80 hp + tractor so bailling won't due, the adapters will have to be strong. When complete you will have a tractor with a car engine that was never designed for what you are doing (torque & HP within a given RPM plus light duty components). I think by the time you actually get all the problems worked out you would have rebuilt your current engine and be happy with your task complete. Take my advice rebuild your current engine unless you like to tinker. Ed Hi, : I've got an 1800 Oliver A series that has taken to knocking in the rear of the engine.. Could be a wrist pin or the skirt is cracked or broken. I was going to over haul it this fall, but things seldom go as they are supposed to! : I was looking at the housing. Is it possable to put a chevy sm block in instead. Just to get it going for now. I know the stroke is much shorter and the govener looks like it may not tie in.. But would give me time to over haul the original motor. : Also I was told that I couldn't drop the pan with out pulling the motor.. Is this true. I have looked at it and would say I could possable get it down.. but it would be really close. Would like to replace the offending piston till fall. : Any help would be apritiated. Especally overhaul hints as to what tricks there are in over hauling one of these engines : Thanks : Catherine
