I ran this ques. in the MM forum and did not solve the problem. So I'm trying it here. HELP. I have a 1961 MM (brown)Jetstar. I'm having trouble with the starter. I've had it checked twice by a good starter man. New brushes, new starter drive, new switch. etc. It always checks out good by him. When I install it, usually starts once or twice & then jams. Sometimes against the flywheel, sometimes at the end of the stroke and the drive does not retract.. The ring gear is far from new, but not all that bad. I even filed a little on some of the teeth.. I also rotated the flywheel by prying it to a new location a few times & this does not help. I understand that the engine usually comes to a stop in about the same place. The engine in this tractor runs perfectly and when the starter engages, fires instantly.. I am frustrated & ready to give up.. The starter switch is located on top of the starter, Any ideas. This starter gear has 12 teeth.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
