You may not due to rust, but other areas of the world are not in the same boat. I would never advocate buying a newer common-rail cummins for an affordable driver. However, a first or second gen cummins is a great option for an affordable farm truck if not in the rust belt. My truck is 19 years old and looks like new. I didn't pay $10,000 more than I would for a gasser, either.
