I'm thinking we need to reduce the quality of jail accommodations and comforts so we can squeeze more into the same space for the same dollars. That way we could keep more lawbreakers in jail. Obviously jail is not the deterrent to crime it once was. For my money that means we're doing jail wrong. With the current economy and the potential elimination of the vast majority of the American middle class we'll have to face the fact that the new and expanded lower class also becomes judgement proof, meaning they don't have anything to be taken from them, or to put it another way they have nothing to loose. We can blame all kinds of changes in our society including the weakening of the family unit, the decline of our communities, the increased mobility of our society and the changes in values and beliefs in today's society.
Bottom line is it becomes increasingly difficult to "have" something (family, house, business....) the increasing difficulty also translates to less motivation. Or to quote the physco-babble they taught me in the Air Force according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs a fulfilled need is no longer a motivator, I also assume neither is an unobtainable need or desire. The changes to our business culture and practices and the lack of moral standards or the ability to identify right and wrong affect how people live, dream and prosper.
I remember when we lived in Florida a clerk was shot and killed in a convenience store robbery, the murderer got $27. The next day someone was on the TV telling us we don't understand the way the ethnic members of this community have to live. My thought was if you're trying to justify murder as okay in the pursuit of $27 I don't want to understand, participate or be anywhere near this community, even to the point of saying now understand how I live- If it's late and dark and I see someone like you coming toward me don't be surprised if the Beretta comes out of the holster and I attempt to dump 15 rounds of 9MM ammunition into your person....nothing personal, you just need to understand how I'm living now too.

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
