Two weeks ago I figured I would try to fix the steering problem on my Dodge C600 that was leaking, This is ware things went wrong. The truck has power assist not power steering and it came that way new. Most trucks in the 50s and 60s didn't have power steering unless you ordered it that way so you just had manual steering, What a joy that is.

Anyway hears the problem, When I took it apart I found it must have gotten water in it and broke the back cast washer letting the seal leak. I took the valve body to a place to get it fixed. The plunger was stuck (rust inside) so the guy at the counter takes a small brass bar and a small ball pen hammer and lightly started tapping on it, OH! That's not good! He broke the cast nipple on the end of the plunger (see picture). Now he wants $250 to fix the plunger plus the 2 seals if he can get them. I picked it up and left with it in pieces. Aint going to happen with them. This started a 2 week search for parts or a whole valve with ends I need. Found one place that said they could send it off to a guy but it might take a month to fix, I need the truck before then. I did find another whole valve and ends that might work but it is 3/4" longer and the gearbox arm is 3/4" longer than the one on the truck. I don't know if the extra 3/4" on the arms can be made to work or not, Guess I can try and see how it works?

The valve body is a Bendix and has Bendix seals that are # EP7 619646 and # EP9 610647 made on the seals. The 2 cast washers on the ends are the same outside diameter but the centers are different like the seals are. The valve casting has a number cast in it and is #126104. Dose anyone have one of theses or know ware to find parts for this?

This steering system was used on Fords, Chevys, Dodge and IH trucks and I have seen several of them on truck before, But now you cant find one to save you life! HELP! Bandit

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
