I'm considering a pump to fill tanks for watering vegatables. It would draw water from the pond to a trailer on the bank about 6 feet above. It needs to operate from a 540 pto or have its own engine. The CT catalog shows PTO driven "Hypro belt-driven pump" and "Ace centrifugal pump" for $319.99. Several catalogs show 3.5HP engine/pumps for $200-$220 and some are described as "self-priming". It might be nice to have the PTO driven pump so there's not another engine to maintain. QUESTIONS: 1. Does anybody know if the PTO pumps or engine/pumps would be more suitable? 2. Are there any priming considerations, and will pumps not identified as self-priming require a foot valve or something?
