Dang! I turned 80 years old today. And on January 8, I get sworn in as a County Commissioner. That will keep me occupied for four years.
My 82 year old sister emailed me and asked how it felt to be an octogenarian. I emailed back that I hadn't decided yet.
I don't think I'd want to try to keep up with that woman. She's buried a husband and a boyfriend, she gives piano and accordion lessons, is substitute organist for about three churches, plays her accordion in a polka band on occasion, goes around to nursing homes in the area and plays her accordion to entertain the residents (many of whom are 'way younger than she), etc.
But, we come from a good gene pool. Going back to at least our great-grandparents, all of our ancestors made it to over 90 except for our father. And he farmed the same farm and worked the same workload until he was 85. At 85 a small stroke took him out of the game and a year later a larger stroke got him for good.
And nary a day goes past that I don't thank the Good Lord for the enduring health and cognitive abilities I've been blessed with.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
