: : : I'm looking to buy a small (<20HP) garden tractor w/PTO to use primarily to mow less than 1/2 acre, blow snow off a large driveway, light hauling, and perhaps do some tilling. I'm avoiding the newer "Craftsman/MTD/NOMA lawn tractors" and am looking for an older, more heavy duty one. I am looking at primarily Cub Cadets, Bolens, WheelHorse, Simplicity, Gravely and John Deeres. Availability of parts and attachments, in addition to the performance of the tractor is a big factor in the decision. : : : Any advice on specific ones to look for or to avoid? : : : Any recommendation : Kent, : I would stay away from the Cub Cadet as they have a poor repair history . The same goes for Bolens. : Simplcity is a very good tractor but I have heard that parts are high. The same goes for John Deere. : Wheel Horse tractors seem to be very good .Don't know about Gravely.I have used a 1988 Craftsman : for some pretty rough mowing . It does not have a PTO though. : Good Luck, : Ford Man I just saw a little MF garden tractor with a tiller on the back and I understand it has a mower deck that goes with it. It's powered by a Briggs 16 (?) hp engine. that's about all I know about the thing. I was thinking about getting it for myself for much the same reasons. Anyone know more?
