: I'm looking to buy a small (<20HP) garden tractor w/PTO to use primarily to mow less than 1/2 acre, blow snow off a large driveway, light hauling, and perhaps do some tilling. I'm avoiding the newer "Craftsman/MTD/NOMA lawn tractors" and am looking for an older, more heavy duty one. I am looking at primarily Cub Cadets, Bolens, WheelHorse, Simplicity, Gravely and John Deeres. Availability of parts and attachments, in addition to the performance of the tractor is a big factor in the decision.
: Any advice on specific ones to look for or to avoid? : Any recommendation Well, one more can't hurt. I've owned (and used hard) a JD 140 for the last 26 years. Rebuilt the engine once and the mower deck once. Has a Kohler 14hp, but no PTO. Also have a Kubota 175DT, great little tractor, deisel, 4-wd. Reliable, hard working, fun. Would reccomend either to anyone. Pick the one that best suites your needs.
