: When I turn the steering wheel fast it's real hard : but when I turn it slow it does fine.I changed hydrl. filter and fluid 4 hrs. ago could it be the priority flow divider spool in the MCV or : the steering relief valve also located in the : MCV?How do i check the divider without a Flo Rater? The pump seem ok because it drags the tractor down when the remote valve is operated : Please Help!!!!! Steve, I work in a CASE-IH shop which was first an IH shop, and have had a fair bit of experience on 574's. First replace the steering relief valve. A first moment afterwards will often let you find the system is working again. This is after your recent change of Hytran and filter. Be aware that cheap brands of hydraulic-transmission oil may become more easily aierated. Stick with the Hytran and an IH filter for best results. If the relief valve change does no good, take it out and double check the internal O-ring and backup washer. These usually cause little problems. If the recent filter & oil change showed you a filter that seemed to be plugged up with a dark colored foam type material, broken up into small pieces, you will need to pull the MCV unit off to get to the hyd. pump. These tractors had a pad of rubbery foam material placed behind the hyd. pump, which kept the front oil level higher to keep the pump shaft and seal lubed and cooled. Moisture in hydraulics will break this foam material up, and it will require a serious flush of your transmission to keep filters from being easily plugged again. In going back together I leave this foam thing out and install 2 gal. more of Hytran (above the normal full level) and then mark the dipstick to the new level with an etched in arrow pointing to it as the full level. If you did have the plugged filter, the shaft seal needs to be closely ckecked over. It may have gotten hot. Overall before I read more from you I'd think the relief valve is the problem. I've encountered few problems with the MCV valves being stuck, etc. Also turn the steering to a stop, and shut off the tractor. If you can turn the steering wheel more than a turn against that stop within a minute, you may have a leaking steering ram, damaged steering hand pump, etc. You can cap off the lines to the ram to further check on the hand pump. Try the relief valve first. Milan
