Natural apple wood may have some value, but take some time on deciding about commercial apple wood. In today's orchard they spray those trees on a regular bases to keep ahead of insects, fungus, and the list goes on. When tree grows the spray stuck to the bark gets grown right into it. Same thing as cutting down a big old tree next to a field that has been row cropped each year. You get sand in the bark that dulls up your chain. Do you really feel ok smoking your meat with apple wood that is releasing trapped chemicals? Never thought much about this until a local rib joint was bragging about apple smoked ribs and a friend heard I loved to eat there. Sure made me stop and think.Guy that told me this was a logger. He said they always pay less for stumpage next to a farmers field. Said the saw mills will raise cain about dulling the blades.
