Sadly, my parents fell for that in their later years. They just became infirm in their minds. They were wiring money to Jamaica... but didn't tell any of us kids, because they wanted to "surprise all of us" when they received the check for 2 million PLUS a HUGE Walmart gift-basket to be delivered by a courier who would be accompanied by two US Marshalls.
I stopped by on my lunch hour one day and both mom and dad were sitting at the table just wiped out... because they had just made a quick run to Western Union. I asked them why. They both looked sheepish. I asked if a family member was asking them to wire money... that brought out the truth that they were wiring money to some dude in Jamaica.
We ended up having to change their phone number to an unlisted one and stop home-delivery of their mail so that one of kids could pick it up and sort out junkmail. (Turns out mom had also been mailing small checks to every scam that arrived in the mail too.)
One hates to have to treat one's parents like children... but sometimes it turns out to be necessary for their own good.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
