My double trouble was more space age than conventional, but everything worked out OK. Last eve at about 7:00 I pulled into the last field to plant corn. 85 acres and talking rain so I wanted to get it done. Dropped the planter, put the tractor in gear, took off and the planter units wouldn't run. I updated the planter this spring so it's all electric drives controlled by two computers that talk back and forth using GPS as a command. It's been working great till now. Checked for GPS signal, yes there was signal, flipped the manual switch, yes the units ran on manual. Checked the height sensor switch, it worked so I called the dealer. He just happened to be close by so in five minutes he drove in. He said he had just encountered this problem today for the first time with someone else and it was a software glitch with the other customer. He got on my computer screen, touched a couple icons and everything worked again. I could have hugged him. I got in the tractor and took off and #1 row sensor yelled at me so I stopped. What the heck is going on here? Everything worked fine till I moved to this new field. Got on my hands and knees and looked at the seed tube and it was plugged with a dirt clod that had jammed up there when I set the planter down. Got that rectified and all was well. Finished up at 2:00 this morning with my son driving the planter. The old man here sat in the pickup sleeping. LOL
It could be worse, the day before yesterday my neighbor was driving his older four wheel drive tractor down the road and an oil hose broke underneath the tractor and dumped all the hyd/trans oil without him knowing it. He was told it would cost $20,000 to fix it. I'm glad I'm not wearing his shoes!
