A few years ago, we were in Minnesota visiting family when I decided I had an evening free and a fishing party boat had room for one more so I went. When a Walleye was caught, they would make a big deal out of it. I started catching smallmouths left and right. The deck hand would unhook every fish caught so no one could sue for getting hooked by their own efforts. After he threw back a 4 pounder I caught, I got a little irate with him. He said they are scrub fish and all should be killed and tossed back. I told him the next one I caught and he threw back, he better know how to swim because he was going overboard. The boat captain decided swimming was not a good idea so he moved me to the rear of the boat. I brought a bucket to take home my catch so I put all I caught in my bucket and left the rest of the boat to them. End of evening, I had my state limit of smallmouths, rest of the boat, 1 small Walleye.
Next week, we were on Rainy Lake which is known for excellent smallmouth fishing.

As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
