: I don't know much about tractors. I read come comentary here once regarding for example a Craftsman riding mower. The comentary was pretty bashing on it one reference was that instead of using bearings (ala tractors) it used bushings. : The thrust of my questions is how does a John Deere riding mower stack up? I say a "riding mower" since I was only looking through dealers window at 9:30 pm and saw some units that didn't have any 3 point on the back, which lead me to conclude (without verifying I must add) that these were just dedicated riding mowers. Would these type units fall withing the catagory of the Craftsman riding mower, or are these built "properly" and can be expected to live for many years? : Again, I don't know much about these and have an interest in ultimately getting a small little workhorse to use around a 2 acre tract of (currently wooded) land. Richard, just a word or two based on my experience. In 1992 I bought a John Deere 430 tractor with the diesel engine, a 60 inch mower and a grass pickup attachment with its own Kawasaki 5 HP gas engine. I have an airport I mow with it (except the mile long runway which gets the 15 foot bushhog), and a large yard. That has been one of the finest pieces of machinery I've ever had, but I've also had other John Deere stuff (bigger tractors and implements) and the same has been true for all of them. That's just my experience. I've had all sorts of mowers in my days and truly, the John Deeres have been the best for me. They are not the cheapest initially, but I believe them to be through the long haul. By the way, I don't sell them and am not hooked up to them in any way, my Dad sold Allis-Chalmers! Have a good day. John
