Hi I think your repair problem for the tank is the same deal as going into a tire shop and yelling split rim repair at the shop door for fun L.O.L . everybody's so scared of risk and liability they'll run you over trying to get out the door so fast as nobody wants anything to do with those now either!. The worlds gone liability stupid if you ask me. if precautions are followed there should be no problem with repairing a diesel tank. or a split rim , if a guy knows what he's doing and what to look for. I hope you get better luck with this repair, parts prices are getting crazy to as you found out!.
