Got caught going down a hill backwards with the 3/4 ton and 2 JD A's last winter... Put the trailer in the snow bank and was able to borrow chains from the guy where I slid off!!
No joke, it was 45 when I left the house at 7:30 in the morning, and it was 28 and snowing to beat the band when I was coming home at 4 in the afternoon... Didn't stand a chance...
I HAVE used my 1/2 tonner for that much weight, and it DOES handle it fine, will happily do 55 if you want it to, but the biggest problem is keeping the rear up. I got some air bags on the way, and I think they will help it for sure. Just needs a little extra support....
