I know this spring has been unusual to say the least, Some areas have seen rain the likes of witch haven't been seen in many years. But for me here in SW Ohio very near Blanchester we are dry, To the point that corn is starting to curl and small trees have leaves are curling. I had the last of my beans planted 3 weeks ago today in dry ground (no-till) and they have had maybe 2/10" of rain over the last 3 weeks. Its like today, it rained hard in town and to the east and north and south but no rain to the west of town. I was glad to see it rain but I cant buy a rain at the farm! I went on a parts run today and seen water standing in fields and thought we were going to be lucky only to find 1/2 mile out of town and the road turned dry and the ground was bone dry. North of Cincinnati Oh up towards Dayton they have had plenty of rain as well as Northern KY to the south of me. It seams like all the rain hits Cincinnati and it splits it in half and it goes north or south of us and we don't get any.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the weather but its getting dry to the point its about as bad as it was in 2012 around here, And that was a screwed up year. Last year we finished up on Fathers day this year we were done on May 23 and as of Thursday I still had beans coming up after being in the ground 19 days. It dose make a guy wonder what the rest of the year is going to be like. But as always I know we are the biggest gamblers in the world and we gamble every time we put a crop in the ground, A 50/50 shot it will work or not. It sure makes you wonder. Bandit
