Hey Jay, I think you are on the home stretch now. I thought about it a little further and I feel like, If the points are worn and allowing too much continuous voltage (12V) applied to the coil, it could stress it and cause it to break down. I think you should go ahead and change the points and condenser and pay attention to the proper grounding. If you should have a similar problem in the future, you should consider changing to a 12v coil and bypassing the resistor for the coil supply. Good luck, I think you have it licked <: Keith : I went ahead and put a new 6V coil and a distributor cap in this weekend. I have points, rotor and wires on order. The tractor runs noticeably better already. It starts better too. : I will check the voltage again. It may be my meter. I got 13V off the battery, so I figured the resistor was just dropping it in half. : I kept the old coil. I think it may have been original with the tractor (46 yrs old). I will let you know when I get the rest of the parts in. : Jay
