I bought this old hydraulic cylinder. I tested it with air and it extends when you blow air into base and retracts when you blow air into piston rod end. My questions are I wonder what this cylinder was used for? And secondly the piston rod is 2.5" in diameter and outside of cylinder is 3.5" in diamter. I wonder if I could use it on a scissor lift for an 8' dump box? I have a single stage hydraulic pump ( pumps a lot of oil quickly) or should I use a dual stage pump like the one on my wood splitter? I have a gear box to bolt to my transfer case transmission in this GM one ton 4x4 chassis. Curious to know what the cylinder was used for in the past especially with how oil enters piston rod end. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?").
