Allis Chalmers Starting Problem

I bought an Allis Chalmers wide front. One thing that it has is when I start it up (cold). I may have to give it a half hand crank and then, the starter will get it going. Could it be out of timing? Or, I need to move the tractor a little while on gear to loosen up in order to give a half hand crank? Can any of this be fixed? Also, the electrical goes from the battery terminal to the starter and to the volt ammeter. At the ammeter the other terminal goes to the alternator. However, the alternators terminal 1 and 2 are not connected. I was looking at an automotive repair manual and it shows that terminal 2 goes to a regulator. Does the tractor have a regulator? I have not really look for it. Any assistance in this matter is appreciated.
