(The tractor...just the tractor). Several weeks ago I found this '69 Ford 4000 on Craigslist, located in east Texas about 170 miles away. I passed on it at the time because it was too wide to fit on my trailer and some other prospective buyers were crowding the seller. I called the owner a few days later and learned that the other lookers had the same problem. I asked the seller if he would hold the tractor for a couple of weeks, and surprisingly, he agreed. I then contacted Brian Wilkins, a young man who lists his hauling services on this site, and between the three of us worked out a delivery date--last Monday.
The tractor lives up to my hopes and expectations. It's clean, original, 3600 hours. The rears--rims and tires--are brand new (see mold ridge). Two things I don't like: I'm going to have to carry a step-stool to get on and off the thing, and I'm going to have to replace that contraption of a seat with an 8N pan seat.
This tractor is one of the rare models that has the exclusive Copenhagen headlight port covers.
