I've come close to having the same thing happen with my Dodge and bp trailer. I had a heavy load that apparently cut the brake wire on the trailer (axle had been replaced, dealer just spliced the wire leaving it too short). I think the heavy diesel up front caused the truck to nosedive a little and the trailer then took the weight off the rear axle. I was lucky, I didn't hit anyone.
