I had one blow the side off in an 8N when I was a kid. That will get your attention.
Growing up my uncle used two Chevy grain trucks. One was a late 70's and the other was late 40's. Floor starter six volt. It died in line at the elevator. We thought it was the battery so we disconnected it and pulled it and got it running to empty and get home. The next morning we got to looking at it. When you pried on one of the terminals it would make contact. So my cousin pried on that terminal with a screw driver and I stepped on the starter. Battery under the floor, mind you. He was leaning over it and that sucker blew sky high. He had three black and blue circles on his chest from the battery caps. Turns out the positive wire had rubbed through welding itself to the frame. New battery and a trash burner full of clothes and she was up and running.
The 9500 combine blew one for no reason one day. Started it up and one just blew. What a mess.
