Blew one up in a '69 Javelin. Every now and then the choke would stick so you had to pull the air cleaner off and stick something down the carb to get it loose. I was on the way home from school and stopped at Miejer's in Okemos Michigan. When I went to leave the darn choke stuck, I pulled the air cleaner off and broke the choke loose with my finger, put it back together, started it up and drove off. Well I was waiting at the stop light trying to cross Grand River Avenue and the darn battery blew up, scared the heck out of me, I dropped the clutch and I shot out across 6 lanes of traffic against the light. I got it stopped and backed up and waited for the light. The light changed, at this point I don't now what going on the car's running and I don't have any warning lights drove for about a 1/2 mile and found a place to pull over, it was a gas station. I opened the hood and saw the top and one side of the battery was gone. About that time the gas station attendant came out he said something like WOW. I asked him if he thought I could make Laingsburg with it, he didn't think so. He was wrong not only did I make it home but it started up the next morning with the blown up battery so I could drive it over to the vehicle I was going to borrow battery from. Near as I could figure I didn't tighten the air cleaner enough and sitting there idling the snorkel on the air cleaner migrated over to the battery and caused a spark.
The next time I heard a noise like that from a car is when our Honda blew up it's radiator. Heard a lot of noise and steam, opened the hood and the top of the radiator was gone. Grabbed the hose from the coolant overflow bottle and tugged on it, eventually the radiator cap and neck appeared still hooked to the hose.

Today's Featured Article - Old Time Threshing - by Anthony West. A lovely harvest evening late September 1947, I was a school boy, like all school boys I loved harvest time. The golden corn ripens well and early, the stoking, stacking,.... the drawing in with the tractors and trailers and a few buck rakes thrown in, and possibly a heavy horse. It would be a great day for the collies and the terrier dogs, rats and mice would be at the bottom of the stacks so the dogs, would have a busy time hunting and killing, all the corn was gathered and ricked in what we c
