AT&T Uverse (telephone, internet, TV) used to be all twisted pair to homes, etc. But because of bandwidth issues, they purchased Direct TV. For new customers that subscribe to Uverse, they will now still get their telephone and internet over twisted pairs, but they will get a Direct TV dish for TV. As of right now, existing customers are grandfathered in and get to keep TV over twisted pair...for now. One of the guys that I work with at AT&T told me that his TV keeps screwing up, tiling and stuff, so he calls the Uverse folks that told him that he needs to go to Direct TV for TV because they changed some equipment out. He tells them that no he doesn't, that he is grandfathered in and they need to accommodate him, so they do until the next time. He had Direct TV but made the move to twisted pair (Uverse) because he lives near a rock quarry that kicks up dust that gets blown for miles, coating his dish and he got tired of climbing up on the roof to clean off the dish and parabola to watch TV. Now that AT&T purchased Direct TV...he is being pushed back to another dirty dish that screws up during storms, whether they be rain or dust. Me? I have Comcast Cable. It isn't cheap, but it generally works and since I'm paying for it out of my pocket, it's my choice.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
