The studs typically have some ridges that run parallel to the bolt shank. You typically tap them into place with a hammer. The ridges serve to hold the stud in place. Tightening the lug nuts down would pull the stud into place if it were not already. If the studs are loosening up, you have the wrong size studs or the holes are wallered out.

If the holes are wallered out, I'd pull the hubs, bolt a wheel to them, then braze them into the hub on the backside. That should keep things good and tight. Of course a perfectionist would either buy an new hub or machine the holes for oversize studs, but most of us are basically economy minded. Jeff King 16:34:06 9/17/98 (0)
