Mark, You should have little or no wobble on the water pump shaft. If you have that much wobble, you must have a problem holding the water in the engine. It removes similar to a auto or light truck. This model shouldn't be a problem for finding parts. An 861 is a nice tractor. Good luck with your new ownership. Ken McWilliams Dayton, Ohio ****************************************************** : I just purchased a Ford 861 Diesel. I noticed a very slight metal-on-metal clicking noise when I test drove the tractor. I have since brought the tractor home and the noise has gotten so bad I won't even run the tractor. I am pretty sure the source of the noise is the fan blade hitting the cowling around the radiator. I can move the fan blade shaft about 1/2" up and down. I don't have the parts manual, so I can't tell how the fan shaft is attached to the water pump. The water pump is firmly bolted to the engine block. Can bad bearings in the water pump cause this problem? Or are there other possible causes?
