I just purchased a Ford 861 Diesel. I noticed a very slight metal-on-metal clicking noise when I test drove the tractor. I have since brought the tractor home and the noise has gotten so bad I won't even run the tractor. I am pretty sure the source of the noise is the fan blade hitting the cowling around the radiator. I can move the fan blade shaft about 1/2" up and down. I don't have the parts manual, so I can't tell how the fan shaft is attached to the water pump. The water pump is firmly bolted to the engine block. Can bad bearings in the water pump cause this problem? Or are there other possible causes?
