I have a 1951 JD B Ser.# 201,000 and up.
The generator Delco Remy Mod# 1100506.
The generator was rebuilt 10 years ago and now the regulator is bad again. About every two years the Reg. quits working.
The OEM set up lasted for 20 of the 30 years I've owned this tractor. The tractor has a Mag. set up. I only need the generator to charge the Bat. after started and Run the lights at night.
I found the first owner had change the polarity of the system, From a Pos. Gnd. to a Neg. Gnd. the reason was because he was pulling a 12 V. Neg. Gnd. engine baler. As I do the same and had no problems until now. I don't have the OEM. regulator.
I found out that there were 3 types made. (1) /P, (2) /N, (3) N/P. These were inked stamped or written on the bottom of the Reg. I was told the N/P had ( Dissimilar metals on the upper and lower contacts) So It could be used on a Pos. or Neg. Gnd.
System. The others don't and are specific to polarity.
Does anyone have a good part # or a suggestion of what can be done?? So I can keep it A Neg. Gnd. Sys. I would like to keep it Orig. As Poss.
This tractor has been used every year to Plow, Cultivate, Seeding, and baling. 50 Acres For 30 Years.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
