Paul, Thought I would throw in a little advice that may help you. I have two Freightliner trucks and a Dodge diesel. I always add a fuel conditioner every time I fill up. The one I like is called Power Service. This good product will lubricate the fuel injection pump and injecters. It also breaks down water so it passes through fuel system. One of my trucks has 780,000 miles on it and I've never had any problem with my fuel components. I m a beliver! Don't forget some of the the older diesels smoked quite a bit, Just unburned fuel.
