Yesterday morning at 4 AM I and a friend made a 300 mile drive to just south of Concordia,KS for Prairie Plowing Days....It was originally going to be on Aug 27th-28th but 4" of rain that week allowed no plowing...2500 people still showed up to see all the plowing rigs.
The plowing was rescheduled to Sept 10th..Kansas has had lots of rain this year so it was still wet underneath...On Thursday and Friday they hit the field with a Turbo-Till to open it up..They dodged rain all Friday afternoon...
The traction was poor for the steamers but they did the best that they could..Quite often the plows weren't running very deep...The tracked Cat tractors had the advantage and could plow deep as the plows would go..10 steamers plowed at once to establish a worlds record....7 gas tractors plowed afterward...I'm guessing that as many as 1500-2000 people showed up yesterday..
There were at least a dozen gang plows from 5-10 bottoms each there which is quite a feat...They are few and far between and with prices being $1000 per bottom and up..For anyone that thinks Kansas is level, well its not..This field had lots of slope with many terraces..

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
