When you rebuilt the engine did you rebore, or did you remove the ridge in the top of the cylinders and hone for the type rings you put in using the original pistons? Is it possible that the rings you used were standard and the cylinders and pistons are oversize. This kind of thing can happen, and would cause some similar results to those you described. Have you tried a compression check? Does it seem to have pretty good power? Crankcase vents open? Let us know what you find. Good luck, Mark R.
