Maybe twenty years ago our fire dept. got called mutual aid to one of those. It was probably three acres. We went station coverage to one of the three towns that part of the pile was on. After a few hours of pumping, the level of the nearby water source started to drop, and we were dispatched to a different site to fill tankers. There was a tanker waiting for us when we got there around ten at night. We pumped at our truck's full capacity for some six hours. They sent a fuel truck around to refill the various engines, but our engine was gas! we were getting low, so we dumped the five gallons that we had with us into the gas tank and sent one of the guys fifteen miles down the road to an all night station to get some more. They finally got it out, but that is not the end of the story. The property owner had no money to clean it up, and a few years later it was lit again. This time a dump truck shuttle was set up, and they covered it with dirt using dozers and excavators. This was another all night operation. There is a housing subdivision there now.
