Someone did that here (N of SF Bay). Put a bobcat in the back seat and drove to a vet.
I saw a story not long ago of a father and son who thought they were rescuing a bison calf. As it was separated by them from its mother, it eventually had to be put down.
I worked for someone whose dog chased a rabbit into a no climb fence where it became wedged. She wanted me to cut it out, but it was pretty beat up. She then wanted me to take it to a vet, but declined to pay. So I told her I would take care of it. She asked if I wanted her to watch my grand daughter, I said no as I would not trust this woman to watch my cat (She jumped in pond once to save her dog and left her toddlers on the bank). My little girl, 3 at the time, asked if I was getting my boom boom. I said yes and she said, "OK. I'll cover my ears." I shot the rabbit point blank and my grand daughter immediately screamed, "Good shot!" The woman was sick.
Same granddaughter, maybe 3 years later, was telling my employer who fired me a few days ago, how her other grandfather got a coyote. He thought she meant as a pet so he asked, "Really? What's it like?" She answered, "I don't know. He shot it in the head."

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
