I long for the days when I grew up. Came home from school at lunch and my mom was there with a nice meal. After school, came home and did a bit of homework or read a Hardy Boys book or went out back to an old community field where the kids played scrub baseball, pickup football, and hockey in the winter. No organized teams or parents anywhere in sight hooting and hollering and praying for the day their kid was drafted into the pro leagues. In the summer, left the yard and might or might not make it home for lunch, nobody seemed to worry about it too much. Spent thousands of useless hours hanging around a local corner store with my buddies generally wasting time and not contributing a lot to anything. Annoyed the Chinese fella that owned the store though but he never seemed to mind for some reason. My report cards from school were OK, nothing outstanding, my mom and dad didn't get their crap in a knot over a C- in history. Nobody seemed to care too much and there were no obstacles or levels of achievement for me to worry about. Didn't end up being a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist but did pretty good overall and I wouldn't trade any of it for anything kids go through these days with all the competitive things they are expected to participate in. Nuff said, I rest my case !!!
