It's one thing when they want to participate and another when they feel like that have to. I know a bunch of local kids. Some participate in everything it seems while others don't take part in anything. And here the kids are lucky. We have a couple of locals with money who anonymously give money to the school so that kids who's parents can't afford some of this stuff can still participate if they want to. Seems that most of the ones who are into everything the parents are the ones forcing the issue. And while I won't say it's true seems like the OP is either forcing a kids to be all these things, either directly or the kids just trying to win approval or the grand parent of a kids who's being forced.
