Here the self serve salvage yards are all but gone. What waiver? Ain't worth the paper it's printed on. That failed years ago and even made it into the federal court system on appeal so it isn't just one state. The thing is they, the companies, like those waivers because most people who sign one really think that they can't sue if injured. The basis here is that the business has a duty to provide the customers safety while the customer is on premises. You get injured because they let you pull a part and they violate or fail to meet that duty. That waiver doesn't release them from that duty. Now IMO most people who do their own repairs and shop for parts in wrecking yards are not the type to sue. But all it takes in one serious injury and expensive lawsuit for an insurance company to tell a company that you can't let customers in a shop area or into the yard itself at a scarp yard. And most business owners even if willing to swap insurance carriers are going to think about the very idea of being sued.
