: : I know this is normally a tractor page but I'm not finding help any where else. : : I picked up a boat (galvanized steel w/ wood ribs) powered by a Ferro 4 cylinder engine. : : Only information I have so far is in American Gas Engines. Wendel loses track in the early teens but this one was built after 1919 due to Delco electric starting and generator. : : It was probably built prior to 1930 or so due to having exposed rockers on a valve-in-head design. The ignition key states "made for Ferro Stamping and Machine Co., Detroit" : : Any assistance would be appreciated. : Check out "Old Marine Engines" by Stan Grayson, I believe he just came out with the 3rd edition. I have the 2nd ed. and it has a few references to the Ferro engine, built by Ferro Machine & Foundry Company of Cleveland, OH. You might want to look for the book at Amazon.com Good luck.I am in the process of restoring a 1939 1 cyl,2 cycle Drott semi-diesel marine engine built for export in Sweden. Do you have a "stackable lifeboat" made by atwood marine? there was one up in northern wi used by a commercialfishing family. They were used as tenders on several larger lake buy boats that would travel the shores of lake superior to buy fish.
