I would stick with a 350 from a 70's pickup complete. Makes it a little easier with pulleys and alternator and power steering mounts. If your 68 doesn't have power steering you can just unbolt it from the 70's donor pickup and bolt it to yours and have it aligned, or update your old leaking unit. If you update to a later 305 the passenger exhaust manifold has a wider spacing on the back port and you might have issues finding the right manifold, seems like there was some head gasket issues with 305's? Unless you find a 305 from a Monte Carlo SS, they seem to run fine. All off all updates install an HEI distributor, if you find one with a 4 wire weatherpack connector connect terminals A and C to make it run. PS I had a 67 C10 with a fine running 350 for 10 years 90-2000. I still should be in jail. chris
