Larry how large of a field is this???? I have walked between the row of a standing crop with a crank style grass seeder and planted rye for a cover crop. If it is just a few acres you can easily do this in a few hours. You can do this is late Sept. and the fall rains will germinate the rye. The new Rye growth will not hurt the harvest at all.
I have a Cyclone seeder like I posted that has sown hundreds of acres of seed. I have seeded acres of grass seed into wheat by setting on the three point mast while resting my feet on a cross drawbar on the tractor while my first wife slowly drove across the field. I did not have the money to buy a three point seeder and needed the wheat inter seeded with timothy.
Side note on the seeder. My Grand Father bought the one I have shortly after he bought the farm from his Uncle. That was in 1919. So this seeder was bought in the 1920s. He always kept it in a metal lard can that had a metal lid with a few moth balls in the can as well. I still do the same thing, same can. So the bag is in pristine condition. So this little seeder has served my family for close to 100 years. Think any of the China built stuff with do that today??????? Funny I just thought of how long the lard can has worked too. LOL
