I have a few nearly every year in pasture and hay ground. I lost 40 acres of newly emerged wheat a few years ago and as you said it literally happened in a few hours. The same year I found them in a corner of an 60 acre bermuda field. Within an hour they had eaten 5 acres to the ground before I could get the sprayer filled. I usually use Sevin but there are a number of contact sprays that work well.
