If you have the operator's manual, there should be towing instructions/warnings in the manual.
Because jump starting did not work, I suspect you could have multiple problems: weak batteries (check the voltage with a volt meter and the acid in each cell with a hydrometer); corroded connections or corroded cables (look for voltage drops across connections while trying to crank the engine); failing solenoid or starter.
Replacing the batteries in the field should not be a big job. If your batteries were newer, I would find the problem(s) before buying new batteries or other parts.
