Randy, I thought that this may make you feel better. I found out about the LDW insurance coverage that the rental companies always try to get you to buy years ago, but almost every time that I am going to be renting a car I double check with my insurance agent before I go to make sure that I don't need it. A few months ago as I was driving I was listening to talk radio. I don't recall how it came up, but anyway this guy called in that used to work for a car rental co. He said that they don't pay much over min. wage but they pay very high commissions on the add-ons, and that is how they make their money. But, he said, that is not all. They are constantly getting checked on by managers, and if they don't get enough add-ons they get fired. No wonder they pressure you so badly! Two years ago I flew into Orlando, and I declined all of the options as usual. Then the agent put the contract up on a screen for me to sign. I skimmed over it, and even though I declined them all, SHE HAD ME CHECKED OFF TO TAKE THEM ALL! I had to get very direct with this sweet looking little young thing to get her to take them off. She probably gets away with adding them on just because of her looks. So, you may think you got took, and maybe you did, but you can rest assured that you have plenty of company.
