I've rented several times and have declined it all but the last two times. Last time,it wasn't this expensive. This guy wasn't high pressure, but he didn't give me a straight answer when I asked what it would cost either.
That brings me to no fault. Ready for the rant? If you live in a state that doesn't have it,and politicians want to shove it down your throat for the advantage of the insurance companies that are lining their pockets,GET RID OF THEM! Even if it means crossing over and voting for the other party, and I'm serious as a heart attack,do it!
I finally talked to an adjuster about one o'clock this afternoon. They offered me about $4500 to settle on a car that I just paid $8250 for a week before it got hit. I told the guy the condition it was in. He said he had it down as "average" condition and unknown, mileage. When I told him how exceptional it was,he said he'd check with the body shop to confirm it and do some more figuring, maybe they could fix it. The repair estimate was just over $8400. He said he'd call back in a while when he got it figured out.
I went out and hauled manure. He called back and left a message to call back, but said they work as a team and I'd have to talk to whoever answered. The gal I ended up talking to was nice enough, but she told me they came up with a value of $7891. I asked her how she came up with that. She said she had 4 comparables and that was the average. Larry,at the body shop told me to have some comps to give them,so I had 8. They were anywhere from $9995 to $11,995. That didn't matter,we had to use theirs, even though she wouldn't tell me where she got them.
She said they just plain flat out were not going to fix my car and $7891 was all they were going to give me. Period. I asked what they would sell it back to me for so I could have it fixed. She put me on hold and came back with $1069. That leaves me $6822 difference. Larry had told me that he could shave some off for me and could fix it for that. I asked the adjuster if they'd still cover it with full coverage if I did that. She told me to call my agent. The office gal checked and said, yes they would.
Trouble is,if it get's smashed through no fault of our own a week after it's fixed, next time their comparables will be for a car with a salvage title, which you can't get a bank loan on,so it'll pretty much be worthless.
I suppose somebody will chime in and make it political,it's inevitable on this forum, but I will NEVER vote for another candidate who has taken one red cent from an insurance company. This has made me totally independent politically. Go ahead, vote party lines no matter who they've taken money from. You'll get it right up the backside financially in a huge way some day.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
