We have a 9 yr old Crosley wash machine. My poor wife had to keep going every once and awhile to fiddle with the timer switch to keep it going. Would just stop what it was doing or get going on the wrong cycle. Soo I figured if all the functions work properly but stopping or getting mixed up than it must be the timer. The dumb timer was just under $200 after taxes. Had we called the appliance repair man he would have charged $90 to drive out and look at it. Than he'd say the timer is $200 another $55 for the second service call because he'd have to order it (didn't have it in stock because I got it from him and he had to order it) and $50 more for the repair so it's likely not worth fixing. Not saying at all that those charges aren't at all fair (I've had appliance service calls before so in not making up the fees) but it sure does pay off sometimes to use your wrenches and take a chance.
