: First, I want to thank everyone who offered suggestions to my problem. I tried them faithfully with no success. Then the manual I had ordered for the TO35 arrived. I read through it - still had no ideas. I decided to start all over and replace parts as I went. I started with the ignition system. When I replaced the rotor (the one on it looked new) I noticed the spark plug wires were not in sequence with what I had just read in the manual. (In my own defense, I have only worked on fords and my son had just purchased and delivered the TO35 to me. I never considered the plug wires were out of sequence.)I installed the wires correctly and off she went, purring like a new one. I still don't understand why the engine did not backfire with two plug wires reversed. I really do feel like an idiot.

I'll give you a feels like an idiot story. When I was a teen, my friend bought a 1954 Dodge six cylnder sedan and wanted to put a hemi v8 in it. I helped him as he had never picked up a wrench before. Putting a v8 in this car meant changing out EVERYTHING. The steering column wouldn't clear the starter, the pedals and linkage wouldn't fit, the front end tie rods and drag links wouldn't fit, the radiator had to be moved, the FRAME actually had to be cut. It had to be completely rewired from scratch. This I (we) did. A massive job. Comes the moment of truth, weeks later. A battery goes in, gas is put in and the engine turns over, and over ,and over, and over, etc. Won't run. I figure the wirings wrong or fuel pump or something else. I spend days trying to make it work. FINALLY I call dear old Dad to tell me what I did wrong. (Did NOT want to). He walks over, pops the distributor cap and says, "You need a rotor" !! Sure enough he was right !

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition. ... [Read Article]
