Ok, let me see if I understand the correct wiring.

* Wire from output on alternator connects to one side of ammeter.

* Wire from other side of ammeter connects to positive side of battery.

* Wire from positive connects to one side of on/off switch.

* Wire from other side of on/off switch connects to one side of ballast resistor.

* Wire from other side of ballast resistor connects to the coil.

Is this correct?

As for the coil, how can it be tested to see if it is bad. I have a meter that test voltage, resistants, and continuity. If it is bad is there a 12v version that replaces it? Thanks very much for your help!
